2013 Pacific Rim Tournament
It is now only weeks prior to the 2013 Pacific Rim tournament in Melbourne, Australia. Confirmed visitors are the Ravens from North West Territories several of the Icemen from Ottawa and a contingent from Japan.
The host association in Melbourne has worked tirelessly to put together an event that all will have a lot of fun at. Originally it was hoped to have several teams come visit Australia but again few have decided to make the trip which forced the host to look at the format. Teams from across Australia will be out in force to play the visiting teams with those ‘spare’ players making the trip down under snapped up on team rosters.
The event will start with exhibition games on Tuesday night October 15th. with Australian teams playing against world all star teams made up by mixing up the overseas players. There are three games with the Men’s first up then the women take to the ice followed lastly by a mixed game. The round robin tournament starts Wednesday 16th October through to Saturday October 19th when the finals are scheduled. To add to the less serious competitive part of the event there is also a round robin of ‘Masters; games throughout the week that will be fiercely contested with a special focus that several of the officials will even take to the ice as players. Broomball Australia is using this event and the 2014 Broomball Australia Nationals as a guide to the make up of teams they will be sending to Tomakomai, Japan at the end of 2014 for the IFBA World Broomball Championships. Those making the trip from the North West Territories (Canada), Ottawa (Canada) and Japan will be warmly welcomed to Australia as the friendly manner displayed during world events is even better when on home soil.
Details on the event can be sourced from the web and Face Book sites with updates during the event also being posted. The event picked up a major sponsor to help support the event which bodes well for the sport down-under into the future.
