A pioneer of broomball in Japan

Mr. Kubo has been actively involved in the development of broomball since December 1991. His early support included providing funding for Japanese broomball administrators and coaches to travel to Canada to learn more about the sport.

This initiative played an important role in establishing broomball in Japan and contributed to the creation and development of what is now the Japan Broomball Association (JBA).

More than three decades of leadership

Hajime has served as President of the Oumu Broomball Association since 1992 and as President and Chairman of the Japan Broomball Association since 1999.

He has supported the Japanese National Team since its first appearance at the World Championships in Victoria in 1996 and has played a major role in organizing tournaments throughout Japan to promote and develop the sport.

Mr. Kubo has also been an important organizer and sponsor in the development of six broomball associations in Hokkaido and played a significant role in the success of the 2020 Japan Cup.

Building Japan’s international presence

Together with Mr. Ken and Kayo Hososaka, Mr. Kubo encouraged Japanese teams to participate in international competitions and IFBA World Championships.

Over the years, he has served as an organizer, fundraiser and sponsor, helping Japanese athletes and teams compete on the international stage.

As a representative of the Japan Broomball Association, Mr. Kubo has also participated actively in numerous meetings of the IFBA Board of Governors, contributing to the international development and governance of the sport.

A longstanding commitment to the World Championships

Mr. Kubo has participated in and supported numerous IFBA World Broomball Championships, including Victoria in 1996, Bolzano in 1998, Victoria in 2000, Minneapolis in 2002, Burnaby in 2008 and Ottawa in 2012.

One of his most significant contributions came in 2014, when Tomakomai, Hokkaido, hosted the IFBA World Broomball Championships.

Mr. Kubo served as a principal organizer and sponsor of the event and was directly responsible for public relations and finance. His efforts were instrumental in securing financial support from the Hokkaido government and major corporate sponsors, contributing greatly to the success of the championships.

A lasting contribution to broomball

For more than three decades, Mr. Kubo has been a driving force behind the growth of broomball in Japan. Through his leadership, financial support, organizational work and international involvement, he has helped establish a strong foundation for the sport and expand Japan’s presence within the international broomball community.

His commitment remains as strong as ever, with a continuing goal of introducing broomball to new participants and helping the sport grow for future generations.
