About the IFBA Hall of Fame
At the 2016 IFBA Governors Meeting in Regina, the Board and its members agreed to establish a process to research, identify and nominate deserving individuals and teams for induction into the newly created IFBA Hall of Fame.
The recognition of individuals and teams who had made significant contributions to broomball was considered long overdue, particularly given the IFBA’s long history of hosting World Broomball Championships.
Creating the induction process
A subcommittee was established to develop the Hall of Fame guidelines and policies, as well as to identify the first candidates for induction.
The committee was tasked with seeking worthy nominees whose achievements and contributions could be presented to the IFBA Board for consideration and ratification.
The first inductees
The first two individuals inducted into the IFBA Hall of Fame were Kim Shapley and Jean-Noël Gilbert.
In a fitting connection between two pioneers of the sport, both were part of the Australia Dingos Masters team at the 2018 World Broomball Championships, with Kim participating as a player and Jean-Noël as coach.
Their induction marked the beginning of an ongoing tradition of recognizing the individuals and teams whose achievements, leadership and dedication have helped shape international broomball.
