Recently over Easter, Australia’s National Capitol was host to the 2014 Broomball Australia Nationals. Host association ACTBA (Australian Capitol Territory Broomball Association) took on hosting the four day event which saw teams and players coming from all over the country. An international flavour was added with two Canadians also in attendance. (further enhanced when one drew the raffle prize donated by the Canadian High Commission and the other was the winner) One playing and the other as part of the team of officials overseeing the tournament. With a men’s women’s and mixed division on offer games were close and very competitive. The event used as a curtain raiser for the IFBA World Championships being held in Tomakomai, Japan later in the year.
Champions acknowledged After all the round robin games were completed it clearly became evident how close the teams were with those getting to the finals needing good results to get through. Grand final results are as follows: Men’s Intermediate Division – NSW 3 defeated ACT 1 Women’s Division – ACT 2 defeated SA 1 Elite Men’s Division – NSW 3 defeated ACT 2 Mixed Intermediate – NSW 4 defeated ACT 3 (in overtime) Elite Mixed – ACT defeated NSW(1) 0
